>> need a kleenex. >> gross. you're watching denver 7 at4:30. we start with breaking news out of aurora. police are on the look out for at least one gunman after a carjacking. >> eric lupher is at the scene of the crime near tower and i- 70. eric. >> reporter: they're looking for three suspects, it's what daryl orr was told, who got here earlier this morning. i want to show you what police are looking for. the description of this vehicle that was carjacked. it was a gray chevy equinox, 2005, license plate, 255 qke. police departments across the

should be looking for and the description for you, if you see it call police immediately. it happened outside this home depot off of tower, just nooth of i-70 at around 1:45 this morning. police are telling us that a person was carjacked by three people with long guns, that's what police are telling us. no word on how the person is doing. the person who was carjacked. and no word if any of these suspects have been arrested. a name has been released for one of the suspects. we're going to hold off on that until this person gets arrested, until we can get that confirmed. there may be a positive identification on one of the suspects, that's what we're being told. we'll keep an eye on things. no police officers are here now. looks like the home depot will open like any other day. gray 2005 chevy equinox.

current wind speeds in denver 12 miles per hour. light on the eastern plains, where we could be watching for stronger winds. at berthoud pass seeing dusts closer to about 45 miles per hour. if you are traveling in the high country, some higher mountain passes you will still -`35 degrees downtown at city park. 40 highlands ranch. 27 castle rock. our warmup is going be a good one today. our temperatures will climb well above where we should be this time of year. in denver this afternoon looking for a high of 65 degrees. jayson, it's time for you to pull out those shorts. >> okay. all right, then. so i can run away from coyotes. i-25 and 110th, cones still on the southbound side. everybody is over to the far right lane as they are doing road work. traffic is getting through okay.

all green getting into downtown at i-76. north 40, about 40 minutes from fort collins to 120th. no delays coming through there. the rest of the drive looks pretty nice. winds will be a problem again. along i-85 from castle rock along santa fe looks okay as well. breaking news updates, a woman is dead after being hit by a car in greeley. we brought you this story last night as it was breaking. the crash happened just before 7:30 near 8th and h street, not far from the beef plant. police say the 48-year-old woman was going to meet her husband at the plant when she was hit and killed. police say the driver didn't appear to be high or drunk but they are still investigating. still an alert for the driver who hit a woman near park and tremont tuesday night.

at last check she was in the icu. police are looking for a 1998 lincoln town car with the colorado license plate qki 285. some of you may have had problems getting around this 13- car pileup on i-70 last night. denver police closed part of the interstate west of 225 for a brief period of time. no one was seriously hhrt. all the cars were cleared by 8:15. a small plane crashes near homes in palmer lake. you can see there's not much left of it at all. investigators say strong wind yesterday may have played a part. this morning we still don't know what happened to the two people on board. faa, ntsb both on scene. there could be a shakeup any works at the park county sheriff's office.

on administrative leave and a sergeant has resigned. we're told the sergeant would have been demoted but decided to leave the department instead. this is a week after three park county deputies were shot. a professor is on the other side of the justice system. this is the picture for this story, daniel crest, arrested for internet luring. he was working at western state colorado university. they have not commented thus far. an air force academy cadet was arrested in connection with a sexual assault case that happened last year in the boulder area. police say he attacked a woman last april near the cu campus. the dna evidence from that

less than a month after justice scalia dies the 8 remaining justices will consider a texas law that will cut the number of abortion clinics by 75%. [ chanting ] >> those are pro choice advocates yelling stop the sham. that hashtag trending overnight in denver. a texas law passed in 2013 places rigourous requirements on abortion clinics. the higher standards would force three-quarters of the existing clinics to close and supporters of the law say it's meant to protect women's health. opponents say it's an attempt to end abortion. we expect a decision by late june. the republican candidates

but don't look for dr. ben carson. he is suspending his campaign. that leaves donald trump, marco rubio, ted cruz and john kasich. the gop scrambling to keep trump from becoming the nominee. he is in the lead after a sttong performance tuesday. 3 >> only too bad that winner didn't take all. because if winner took all, this thing is over. we're just having a celebration. >> the race could change in the next few hours. mitt romney is expected to hold a press conference later today. he's been critical over donald trump. here's one example via twitter -- that's from mitt romney.

last night -- this morning colorado voters are demanding change after major issues during the super tuesday caucus. many say we should switch back to a primary. we showed you these images. the lines were around the block, little to no parking. thousands just gave up and decided not o vote. local party leaders say the individual parties can't afford caucuses or primaries so they'd tab. >> many people at the capitol are hesitant to spend more money on the process, but lawmakers agree something has to be done. >> conversations are already starting about whht the best timing is for sitting down and figuring this out. but there's no doubt in my mind by 2020 we will not be having a presidential caucus the way we did last night. >> one group called let cclorado vote says only 14% of

because of the way they are set up, none of the 1 million unaffiliateed voters in colorado could participate. the 16th street mall has a lingering problem. some linger for too long, while the city would like others who shop and spend money to stay longer. >> denver 7's jason gruenauer has more on how the city plans to maybe solve this problem. >> reporter: normally the 16th street mall here downtown is a destination for tourists and people and go through. but the city wants to draw more locals and they want them to stay here a little bit longer by adding more events. these are called meet in the street events. had some on sundays last year and now they're expanding it to consecutive weekends starting june 25th. with things for kids and families to do.

they even put sod down the median -- [ audio breaking up ] -- like a park. by doing this they're trying to turn the tide away from those who come down here and stay too long for the wrong reasons. the 16th street mall with a little bit of a bad reputation for some with crime, drug activity, and the homeless population that come down here and stay. it's two sides of the coin, trying to get more locals to spend more time, ore money obviously as well for the economy. all of this amid other plans from the city that they plan on adding more lights up and down the 16th street mall. wouldn't expect that many people out here at 4:45 a.m., but on a day like today, 4:45 p.m., nice weather, they want locals to enjoy it, and try to turn that tide away from the bad, the black eye, rather, this area has gotten over the past few years. we'll keep you updated and more

long as we look at the long- term models. yesterday we had the red flag warnings. today the winds quiie a bit calmer, which is good. red flag warnings has expireed. still a little bit breezy in spots and our fire danger is still high. wind in the denver metro area around 12 miles per hour. from 10 to 15 miles per hour. those temperatures itts chilly thii morning. but we are in for an incredible warmup. look at these temperatures across the state. up in the high country dealing with mid-20s. we have the same temperatures down here. little bit warmer for fort collins and greeley and on the eastern plains we are even seeing 30s from urlington, lamar, 36. pueblo, 38 degrees. here's that warmup. look how quickly we jump. we'll be into the 60s if not

at noon. then climbing into the mid-60s by 2:00 this afternoon. even this evening very mild. our evening temperatures have been very nice, especially about the time you pick up the kids and have dinner. look at these highs, 67 at the airport today. % we'll see some low 60s on the eastern plains. 65 in fort collins. 62 in greeley. in the mountains it will feel like spring skiing. 48 the high in aspen. steamboat a high of 45. zoom into the metro area, downtown looking for a high of 65. erie, boulder and longmont about 66. castle rock and highlands ranch you're there as well. this time of year our average high should be around 50. looking at futurecast, not a lot to show you. few clouds moving in this afternoon, but very quiet and dry across the entire state. we are in need of a little bit of moisture. tomorrow mountains might pick up a little bit of that.

next couple of days until next week. look at this weekend, though. we warm nicely, jumping up into the 60s. on sunday i'm going to move the bright spot, it's going there because some locations across the metro area will see 70 degrees. >> it was really windy yesterday. it was so windy it stopped me. i was walking into my daughter's school and all of a sudden it stops you. >> you're a big guy. >> yeah, i'm a large human. there's a lot of mass here. it blew down one of those little slow for the kids signs. first and sheridan no significant delays. wind a farther farther to the west. you can see a lot of green on the map, including along highway 36. no travel time delays that way, from boulder to i-25. looking in okay shape.

470, drive on 285 is looking okay. i saw a reported wind gust down in south park of 63 miles per hour. it is still a factor for us to the west. we hear about this all the time, pe classes getting cut from schools or recess reduced. one denver area elementary school has found a way to make exercising fun for the kids. all second through fifth graders at leroo drive elementary are part of the 100- mile club. it's what it sounds like, a challenge to run or walk 100 miles during the school year all during recess. it's only march, but second grader johnny novak hit his 100th mile yesterday. there to cheer him on. >> uh-huh. >> how many miles have you run? >> 100. >> why did you do this? >> so i could stay healthy. >> yeah.
